Chiropractic Care

Kevin Culver, DCGentle and Specific
Hello, I'm Dr Kevin Culver, DC. I was born and raised under Chiropractic care by a father who was known and respected by his peers as a leader in his field. He taught me early on that the Chiropractic adjustment is most effective, and requires the least amount of force, when it is highly specific. The body is best able to accept the adjustment and the new neurological input when it is receiving exactly what it is asking for. Resulting in the nervous system adaptating to a higher level of function.

Dr Culver Specializes in:

shoulders, elbows, and wrists
hips, knees, ankles, and feet
headaches (migraine, tension, cervicogenic)
neurologic symptoms (numbness, weakness, pain)
back and neck pain (chronic or acute)

Family Wellness
I believe that checking the spine and nerve system of children as they are growing and developing is paramount. It has been estimated that we incur an average of six thousand minor traumas by the age of nine. These slips and falls have the potential to cause whiplash-type injuries that over a period of time can have a huge impact on the health of the spine, and subsequently the health of the nerve system. Remembering that the nerve system is the avenue through which your child interacts with the world.

Functional Neurology
I assess the nerve system of children and adults from a variety of perspectives, including muscle testing, primitive reflexes, eye movement, posture and gait analysis, and more. Then, based on individual needs, I have an assortment of treatment methods that can be incorporated into a treatment plan to optimize healing potential and the ability for the body and soul to thrive.

Applied Kinesiology

Functional Muscle Testing and Treatment
Dr Culver utilizes Professional Applied Kinesiology (PAK) in evaluation by using the muscles of the body as a “window” into the nerve system to accurately detect function. PAK is also used extensively in treatment to neurologically affect overactive and underactive muscles. These techniques and others, in conjunction with Chiropractic care, facilitates bringing the entire neuro-musculo-skeletal system into balance.

Posture & Gait Analysis
The body has a language and it never lies. Each postural muscle will exhibit certain signs of weakness that can lead me to quickly identifying the muscle involved. Likewise, observation of abnormalities in the gait mechanism may disclose many muscle incoordination problems. By addressing these imbalances, your Chiropractic care will be much more effective and increase the potential for lasting results.

Meridian Therapy

Today, thousands of years after the establishment of acupuncture as a method of treatment, its laws and principles are better understood on a scientific basis. Sophisticated electronic instruments yield information about the meridian system heretofore unknown. A primary aspect of meridian therapy is the concept that energy goes through twelve bilateral meridians, and the energy should be balanced within the system. This energy, called Chi (or Qi, both pronounced "chee"), is electromagnetic.

Understanding the body lanuage of the meridian system increases one's ability to unerstand dysfunction that causes symptoms when there is no pathologic process to diagnose. The primary contribution Applied Kinesiology has made to meridian therapy is in diagnosis and understanding why there may be imbalance of energy in the system.
Treatment includes the use of manual stimulation of acupuncture points without the use of needles, as well as chiropractic adjustments and nutrition as indicated.

Functional Nutrition

What is it?
About the year 424 BC, Hippocrates made the statement, “Your food shall be your medicine and your medicine shall be your food.” He understood that feeding the body the right combination of food could get an ill person well as well as maintain wellness throughout life.

In modern times, chronic diseases —such as heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, and arthritis—are among the most common, costly, and preventable of all health problems in the U.S. They account for 7 out of 10 deaths among Americans each year according to the CDC.

Feeding the Body
Scientific studies show that providing the body specific nutrients designed by nature in the form of whole foods, allows your body to do the work that it needs to heal and thrive.

Although we as a society tend to want the quick fix, lured by the promise of a pill for everything, we can’t ignore the “side” effects and what it means to our long-term health. I believe the more prudent approach is to feed your body what it needs to build and maintain proper function, with the most significant side effect in this case being abundant health!

Functional Evaluation
I use muscle testing in a similar way I use it for functional neurological evaluation in my Chiropractic care. In this way, I'm able to assess all major organs and glands of your body for function and determine what the current priority is for each individual. We then focus primarily on that area and determine which specific nutrients are needed to address deficiencies or imbalances.

As your body begins to heal, other areas might show themselves as the new primary focus. In the process, all of your body’s major systems—digestive, hormonal, cardiovascular, skin, muscles, nerves and brain, etc.—come into balance in the order that works best for you, without overwhelming or confusing the body. The process is akin to peeling back the layers of an onion.

Why Whole Food Supplements?
When I determine that supplementation is required, I use whole food organic nutrients and herbs in a form as nature intended, as food, for the body to utilize most effectively. This is a far different approach and philosophy from the prevalent thinking surrounding the use of fractionated vitamins, small pieces of the whole complex, for symptomatic relief. A good example is ascorbic acid, commonly referred to as vitamin C. The truth is, ascorbic acid is only the outer shell of the whole vitamin C complex. It's like eating the eggshell instead of the egg. And although in the beginning it may seem to be working well, what is happening is the molecule is robbing the body's tissue reserves of necessary enzymes, co-factors, etc. to make the ascorbic acid molecule into something the body can recognize and use. Eventually however, the reserves will be depleted and now the body is starving for additional nutrients. This is true of all fractionated vitamins, including B vitamins which are most commonly extracted from coal tar!

“Ahhhh!” That’s what most patients say as soon as they feel the percussor on their tight muscles and sore backs. This instrument delivers mechanical percussion to the area being treated. The frequency of percussion is variable so different tissues and tissue depths can be affected. I’ve found that it works very well prior to adjustment in loosening up tension around the vertebral subluxation. This allows the adjustment to set with less force and with greater patient comfort than without percussion. Patients generally report that percussion “feels great” or “is very relaxing.”

Another great use of the instrument is unwinding facial adhesion of traumas or surgeries. When our body is injured or cut, as in surgery, the fascia, (dense connective tissue) of the body becomes tight and tense. It is as if someone put their fist into your body and grabbed tissue and twisted. This is how soft tissue heals, through fibrotic scarring and contraction. The percussor is wonderful for releasing fibrotic scar adhesion especially in surgeries of the abdomen, knee, or shoulder. It also works very well for releasing old traumatic shoulder injuries as well as the neck tension associated with them. Percussion reduces adhesion and contraction; increase the amount of lymphatic and blood drainage, and decreases systemic nervous system tension and muscle spasm.

Laser Light Therapy
Low power laser, or "cold" laser, is quickly becoming the first line of attack in pain control and tissue healing in rehabilitation medicine. It is safe, painless, and quick.

Cold laser uses a laser beam to treat an injury to a soft tissue such as a ligament, tendon, or muscle. A low intensity laser beam reduces pain, inflammation, and swelling and promotes healing of damaged tissue. It works by increasing the flow of blood and lymph through tissue, and by reducing the production of prostaglandin, which is a chemical released in response to an injury that causes pain and inflammation. Low power lasers are not harmful. Lasers used for tissue stimulation do not have sufficient strength to damage cells.

Why use cold laser?
Cold laser therapy speeds up recovery from a recent injury to a ligament, tendon, or muscle. It also reduces pain and swelling and promotes healing.
Cold laser can be used to treat old injuries as well. Injury to a muscle leaves behind residual scar tissue which causes the muscle to shorten and work less efficiently. Laser can help break down this scar tissue.

Cold lasers stimulate biological processes. When laser light interacts with tissue, it causes certain photochemical reactions to occur, and stimulates natural biological processes. Many of these reactions have beneficial effects on the body, helping to control pain and accelerate healing.

Lasers can treat a variety of conditions:

acute, chronic or post operative pain
arthritis, tendon/ligament problems
carpal tunnel
nerve root irritations
back/neck dysfunction
tennis elbow
herpes lesions and a variety of other skin conditions

How does cold laser work?
The human body absorbs and utilizes light emitted from the soft laser in a similar way the chain of photosynthesis reaction in plants uses light. The basic principle is that the energy in a soft laser beam can be incorporated into natural processes of the living body. Coherent monochromatic red light emitted at a wavelength of 635.8 nanometers (nm) is absorbed very well by the tissues, as the optimum photoelectric effect occurs in this range of spectrum. The 635.8 nm wavelength comes within the absorption lines of the ions in the human body.

Cold Laser Treatments
Treatments are rapid and painless. Low power lasers do not generate heat. When the laser contacts the skin, the patient experiences no burning. Although the light may stimulate certain nerves, most people feel nothing during the treatment. Some report feeling calmer or more centered that day.
Treatments are cummulative and it is generally recommended patients receive at least 3 times per week for a total of 8–12 treatments. The length of the sessions typically run 5 to 20 minutes depending on the injury.

What does it mean to function at a higher level?

"This guy is amazing. I have been to many different chiropractors over the years, and none have treated me the way that Dr. Culver is treating me. Most of the other chiropractors get you on the table and crack you up one side and down the other, then sprint out of the room to do the same to the next patient waiting down the hall. Dr. Culver takes the time and spends the energy to diagnose you each time you see him, and only makes the adjustments that are needed, as opposed to performing the same "cookie cutter" moves on you, and everyone else, each time."

Even more amazing is that he has made great progress in an old ankle injury of mine that creates a combination of pain and  numbness in the foot, while also making me very prone to rolling my ankle. That condition caused me a broken arm two years ago. Find another chiropractor that will even look at an extremity issue, much less fix one.Check this guy out, he is a healer.

"Dr. Culver is a miracle worker... I have been his patient for the last couple of months and I am still amazed at the range of motion that he has accomplished by adjusting my poor weakened body... When I arrived in his office I could hardly walk... My right  knee  is bone on bone osteoarthritis... The Orthopedic Surgeon told me that it was just a matter of time that I would have to have a knee replacement... He gave me a very expensive brace to wear that went from my upper thigh down to my calf... With no relief and it kept sliding down my leg... The left foot I was told by a Podiatrist that my arch was falling and that I needed supports for my shoes... Well after several different types of supports that sent excruciating pain up my leg and still no relief...  I was limping along and dreaded even walking at all...

Then enter Dr. Culver... As he started to work on me I think you could have called me twisted sister...  Both of my hips were out, pelvis rotated, legs rotated... All the bones in my feet needed to be adjusted... My knees were off center and needed adjusting... He said "I don't know how you were walking at all"... Well even after the first adjustment I felt a difference... My feet seemed to be planted flatter on the ground when I walked... I wasn't in the excruciating pain... I hadn't been to a chiropractor in years because of a bad experience with one and never felt any relief...

Dr. Culver has healing hands and is very informative with every adjustment... He let me know that I had "Ligament Laxativity that my ligaments were not holding the adjustments... after taking supplements for this particular weakness I have improved and am holding the adjustments much better... I like that he is not rough when he works on me...

It is wonderful to be treated by a true professional... He is informed in so many areas that my body is eternally grateful... I am just sad that I am moving out of state and have to leave his wonderful care... I want to take him with me...
So there truly is an alternative to invasive surgery and taking heavy doses of medication to cover up the pain that you may be suffering...

I hope that you will come visit Dr. Kevin Culver for you will be a better person after an adjustment with him... Our bodies tell us when they need help, it is our responsibility to find the right kind of help... There is always a better way to live our lives if we but seek it out...

I thank the Lord for sending me an angel in the form of Kevin Culver...  Thank you for giving me back my life...

—Merrie H.

"I've been having shoulder issues, and after an hour of chiropractic work...I felt like new!  It's amazing how your hip can be the source of pain in your shoulder...but there you have it.  Dr. Kevin Culver is certainly among the best in his field.

—Amelyn C.

"My husband and I have had the pleasure of having Dr. Kevin work on us several times and were thrilled with the way he cared for us! We had never experienced a chiropractor that took the time to go over every part of our bodies and address our care in the way that Dr. Kevin does. Usually, chiropractors have you in and out in 10 minutes (plus any wait time in the lobby), usually crack and pop and on your way; not Dr. Kevin! Our first visit with Dr. Kevin lasted over an hour for each of us and we were both amazed with how he evaluated our bodies as a whole and did not just feel our back, crack it and send us on our way!Subsequent visits also lasted longer than your average visit, each time taking into account how all our body parts/aches and pains were related to how our backs were out of alignment.

Although the visits do last longer than your average in and out chiropractor visit, you will be amazed at how much more you should be expecting from a visit!  We would highly recommend Dr. Kevin to anyone with an ache or pain, not just those with back problems!

"This is a review for my mother. She went to see Dr Culver when she was having problems walking. She was suffering from numbness of the hands and legs and living with a diagnosis called peripheral neuropathy. It causes alot of muscle tenderness and weakness.

After Dr Culver assesed her and went over her medical history he began to adjust her and get those muscles and nerves turned back on. It was amazing! After only a short period of time with her when he was through, she was able to get up and walk! Slowly but steadily without her walker! Something she hadnt been able to do in months! Every visit she made with him helped a little bit more and more. One visit she walked in shaking and unsteady with the walker and when she left she was carrying it out by her side! I saw all of this myself and I must say I was so pleased and impressed by his kindness and professionalisim. I even learned alot from listening to him explain how the muscles sometimes need to be turned on after they've been out of motion for long periods of time and how to activate them. I know my mother would like to continue to see him and work towards more progress. As my mother says "my chiropractor turns me on!"

"My 6 year old son has been seeing kevin for feet problems. We saw two doctors before Dr Kevin Culver, the outcome was surgery at the age of nine. We decided to try something different. So far his feet are starting to straighten out and his knee and hip pain is going away, he can walk a lot farther without pain. Now he is helping me & my wife with our various pains, with success!!!

—Steve C.

"I have been Dr Culver's Client/Patient for over 7 months now and I wish I had found him years ago! I have seen many Chiropractors in the past but none ended up helping me heal until Dr Culver. He truly cares for his clients/patients and goes out of his way to get you to a much higher quality of life!

Dr. Culver explains everything he is doing and everything that is happening because of what he is doing so you actually get not only an adjustment that holds, you get an education as well. He does so much more than just the typical adjustment. Nutrition, diet, exercise, muscle balancing and supplements are a large part of his healing process and Dr. Culver covers all that and so much more. Pain is optional! You can live with it OR you can call Dr.Culver !!

Each of the five factors contributes to, or diminishes from, our health. True health develops from a positive balance of all five.

The first factor The nervous system, or “nerve system” is what connects the essence of who we are to the physical world. If you think about it, everything you see, everything you feel or touch or taste, every smell, every sound—happens through the nerve system. It connects brain and body, sparking an infinite number of chemical reactions that affect every system, every organ, every tissue and in fact, every living cell throughout your body.

The healing process
Science has proven that the spine and the tissues that surround it have a tremendous impact on our brain and subsequently how we interact with the world. Chiropractic is a part of maintaining balance because of the positive affect that adjusting the spine has on the nerve system. It helps to explain how it is that “miracles” occur every day with simple chiropractic care. We witnesses the miracle of life itself and the beauty of the body’s innate intelligence in healing. It is an affirmation that the intelligence that made the body also has the ability to heal the body. You cut your hand and it heals. Regardless of any conscious action on your part, every cell in your body is aware and takes action as necessary and able.

Potential to thrive
It is within the scope of the Chiropractor to remove interference from the nerve system, interference that may be impeding the body to heal itself., therefby allowing the fullest expression of yourself as a human being.

The Five Factors

Each of the five factors contributes to, or diminishes from, our health. True health develops from a positive balance of all five.

The second factor Around the year 424 BC, Hippocrates made the statement, “Your food shall be your medicine and your medicine shall be your food.” Chronic diseases — such as heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, and arthritis—are among the most common, costly, and preventable of all health problems in the U.S. They account for 7 out of 10 deaths among Americans each year according to the CDC.

The Healing Process
By feeding the body what it needs to build and maintain proper function, many people never reach a state of pathology. That is not to say that we don’t all have periods of lowered resistance which can manifest in many ways. Again, feeding the body specific nutrients, designed by nature and tailored specifically to you, gives your body the tools it needs to do the work of healing. As it’s designed to do.

Each of the five factors contributes to, or diminishes from, our health. True health develops from a positive balance of all five.

The third factor Our bodis are meant to be used. Movement is life. Below I've listed the top 15 benefits of exercise. It could just as easily be turned around to point out that the reverse is true when we don't move!
Top 15 Benefits of Exercise
1. Increases metabolism to burn calories by increasing oxidation (breakdown & use) of fat.
2. Improves blood sugar control. With inactivity the body becomes more resistant to insulin, increasing the risk for type 2 diabetes.
3. Improves immune system function.
4. Protects the body from cancer & increases digestive efficiency reducing the
incidence of colon cancer 30-40%. Decreases women's risk of endometriosis by 50%.
5. Increases aerobic capacity.
6. Develops new blood vessels in the heart & muscles.
7. Increases hemoglobin level, for better oxygen transport.
8. Decreases blood pressure, increases HDL (good) cholesterol & decreases chance of blood clots, heart disease & stroke.
9. Maintains, tones & strengthens muscles & increases muscular endurance. Inactivity causes muscles to atrophy, for women in their 40s & men in their 50s.
10. Increases bone strength. Lack of activity leads to bone weakness, osteoporosis & bone loss.
11. Increases thickness of joint cartilage.
12. Increases blood flow to the skin.
13. Improves sleep patterns.
14. Decreases risk of cognitive decline & dementia.
15. Decreases risk of depression & symptoms of those already depressed.

Each of the five factors contributes to, or diminishes from, our health. True health develops from a positive balance of all five.

The fourth factor While resting, your brain processes your day, connecting events, sensory input, feelings and memories. Dreams and deep sleep are important for your brain to make memories and links. Sleep is also a time for your body to build and repair damage caused by stress, ultraviolet rays and other harmful exposures. The immune system is boosted through rest as well

The healing process
Your cells produce more protein while you sleep and protein forms the building blocks for cells, allowing them to repair damage.
Melatonin is a hormone that makes us sleepy & appears to suppress the growth of tumors. People working late shifts have a higher risk for breast & colon cancer because the extra light exposure at night suppresses melatonin production.

Potential to thrive
Many people will tell you not only how much better they feel when receiving regular Chiropractic care, but also how much better they sleep. Both in terms of quantity and the quality of the sleep.

Taking a nap is like rebooting your brain. For a quick boost of alertness, experts say a 10-to-20-minute power nap is adequate for getting back to work. For cognitive memory processing, however, a 60-minute nap may do more good, The 90-minute nap will likely involve a full cycle of sleep, which aids creativity and emotional and procedural memory, such as learning how to ride a bike.

Each of the five factors contributes to, or diminishes from, our health. True health develops from a positive balance of all five.

The fifth factor Thought is one of the most important, if not THE most important of the 5 factors. Quantum physics describes how our thoughts not only influence, but create, our life experience. This includes our health. Our thoughts are electromagnetic energy and each and every cell in our body has receptor sites, like little antennae, specifically for picking up this energy. Further, the science of epigenetics says that our cells are designed to respond to our environment. Therfefore our cells and our genes express in reponse to our thoughts! That expains how some people are able to walk across burning coals without any ill effects. It's because they believe so strongly that they can. It also explains the "miracles" of spontaneous remission and healing.

So pay attention to your thoughts. Do you firmly believe your body has an amazing innate ability for healing? Food for thought indeed.
